Fathers, Men of Influence

June 17th, 2007

Confession

I am who God says I am in His Word.
I have what God says I have;
I can be what God says I can be;
I can do what God says I can do.

All authority in heaven and on earth
Has been given to Jesus.
I have been given Jesus' authority.

I have the authority to resist the devil
because Jesus completely defeated him through the cross.

I have been given the right to win over the devil every day!

Satan and his demons are under my feet.
I resist the devil and he runs from me!

The devil is afraid of me because I walk in Jesus' authority.

Father's Day
MAIN THOUGHT: Every believer can be a person of influence by practicing
Paul's methods of passing on the faith.

Philippians 4:9
NIV "Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me -- put it into
practice. And the God of peace will be with you."

Paul taught so that others learned.
1 Corinthians 4:15
NIV "Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers,
for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel
."
1 Timothy 1:2
NIV "To Timothy my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and
Christ Jesus our Lord."

LeadershipIs Influence
Matthew 11:28 NIV
"'Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you
will find rest for your souls.'"
Philippians 4:11
NIV "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the
circumstances."
Acts 1:1
NIV "...all that Jesus began to do and to teach"
2
until the day He was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the
apostles He had chosen."

Paul ministered so that people received.

"receive by hearing or instruction"
Acts 19:2
NIV "and asked them, 'Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?'..."
Sometimes children do not "receive" what a parent tries to give.

Paul spoke so that men & women heard.
Acts 14:9-10
NKJ "This man heard Paul speaking..."
Faith comes by _______________ the Word of God.
Rom. 10:17
Mark 4:24
NIV "'Consider carefully what you hear,' He continued. '
With the measure you use, it will be measured to you -- and even more.
(Mark 4:13-20)
25
Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him."

Paul lived so that others could see his life.
Acts 1:1
"...I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach"
Ephesians 5:1
NIV "Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children"
Greek:
"mimeomai": a mimic, an actor
3 John 1:11
NIV "...do not imitate what is evil but what is good..."
1 Corinthians 11:1
NKJ "Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ."
1 Corinthians 4:16
NIV "Therefore I urge you to imitate me."
Hebrews 13:7
NIV "Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their
way of life and imitate their faith."

Paul expected Christians to put truth into practice.
Hebrews 6:12
NIV "We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience
inherit what has been promised."
John 13:17
NIV "Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them."
Dads, live so that your family will be influenced by you!
